2 Tomatoes: An unexpected culinary delight in Cranston

Posted

Spring has finally sprung, and what better way to celebrate sunshine and longer days than by treating yourself to the most indulgent and mouthwatering pizzas, calzones, hot subs or succulent burgers in town. This is exactly the kind of fare you will find at Cranston’s new pizza-bakery on Dyer Avenue, “2 Tomatoes”.

“2 Tomatoes” is the brainchild of Johnson & Wales graduates Megan Martin and Patrick Murphy whose passion for “all things baked” extends literally to the days of their childhoods. Megan and Patrick share a love for the actual science of baking and they know that baked goods are far more than the sum of their ingredients, but rather of how those ingredients work together, how they are “scaled” and where they come from. When they say their food is made “fresh” and “from scratch”, they really mean it.

The dough, the red sauce, the pizza sauce, the meatballs, hamburger patties, chicken cutlets & fries – are all prepared fresh every day from the finest of ingredients. Martin and Murphy, “2 tomatoes” themselves (from whom this pizza-bakery derives its name), prepare food with a flair and finesse that are simply hard to find.

While somewhat off the beaten path, “2 Tomatoes” is worth a side trip or phone call. Patrons swoon over their popular Barbeque chicken pizza, but this is only one of a broad range of specialty pizzas, calzones, spinach pies, hot grinders, cold sandwiches, pasta dishes and baked goodies available here. The menu is always expanding, and Megan and Patrick are constantly testing the limits of their culinary prowess. They include on this menu a selection of burger plates that take burgers to a whole new level, with toppings like pineapples, BBQ sauce, various cheeses and fresh veggies – all served with a heaping portion of fries or onion rings. You will NEVER leave “2 Tomatoes” hungry. Ever.

Each Thursday, Patrick heads east to New Bedford to collect the best cod, straight off the fishing boats, for his now-famous Fish & Chips. Served every Friday and Saturday, this traditional dish of golden brown fish and hand cut fries is simply irresistible. The latest addition to the menu includes the totally tempting “Rotten Tomatoes.” Don’t be thrown off the name – there is nothing “rotten” about these deep-fried, crunchy wraps filled with meats, cheeses, freshly cut vegetables. Simply decadent.

“2 Tomatoes” is a take-out pizza-bakery that also delivers within a three mile radius of its shop on 889 Dyer Avenue.
