The American Heart Association|American Stroke Association recently announced the date and event chair for its annual Southern New England Heart Walk. The 2018 Southern New England Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, May 19 at UMASS Dartmouth and on Sunday, June 3 at Station Park in Providence. The Heart Walk will be chaired by Robert Amrien, Director of the Physician Assistant Program at Bryant University.

“On behalf of the Bryant University team, it is an honor to serve as event chair for the 2018 Southern New England Heart Walk. Cardiovascular diseases and stroke remain leading causes of death for Americans, but together with the American Heart Association, we can raise awareness and funds to take on these very serious threats,” said Robert Jay Amrien, MPAS, PA-C. “I challenge all of you to make Southern New England the healthiest area in the country! It’s more than a walk – it’s a movement.”

The Southern New England Heart Walk brings more than 6,000 walkers together for a 2-mile and 3.5-mile walk that is fueled by the movement to be Healthy For Good. Healthy For Good is designed to rally millions of Americans to live healthier lives, inspire lasting change, and unify people around the simple idea that making a small change today can create a difference for generations to come. The approach is simple: Eat Smart; Add Color; Move More; Be Well.

“The Heart Walk not only inspires participants to live a healthy life but brings the community together to fight the number one killer and number one disabler of Americans,” said Mr. Amrien. “Last year thousands of people came together to walk, raise funds and share their stories of the lasting effects of stroke and heart disease. I invite all residents throughout Southern New England to walk with us on May 19 or June 3 in honor or in memory of loved ones impacted by heart diseases, stroke and congenital heart defects. Together, we will rally around a great cause!”

The walk and festival will take place on May 19 at UMASS Dartmouth, 285 Old Westport Road, North Dartmouth, MA starting at 9:00 a.m. and on June 3 at Station Park, 100 Gaspee Street, Providence starting at 8:30 a.m. To register for the 2018 Southern New England Heart Walk visit www.sneheartealk.org.

The American Heart Association uses funds raised through Heart Walk to finance cutting-edge scientific research, conduct public and professional education programs and advocate for public health.

The 2018 Southern New England Heart Walk is sponsored by Care New England, Bristol County Savings Bank, G. Lopes Construction, Southcoast Health, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Bryant University Physician Assistant Program, Hawthorn Medical Association, Mechanics Cooperative Bank and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.
