5th Annual RI Authors Expo - Dr. Michael Battey, RI Author

Posted by Tapestry

Dr. Michael A. Battey, of East Greenwich will be a featured speaker and author at the 5th Annual RI Authors Expo, December 2nd from 10am to 5pm at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet in Cranston.

His book is a satirical and serious look at parenting. The Parent Trap Columns (Vol. 1), Humorous Child-Raising Advice in a Baby Boomer World is the first in a two-volume collection of humorous and insightful observations on contemporary teen parenting. The book developed from Dr. Battey’s parenting columns which ran in a local newspaper for more than 8 years, reflecting the author’s personal experience in raising, along with his wife, three children. In addition to advice and observations, and a tongue in cheek look at baby boomers’ approach to child-raising, the book provides commentary on parenting trends, and public education.

Dr. Battey says, “while baby boomers oft unabashedly reminisce about the good old days of their childhood and how effective their own parents were, they have somehow chosen to parent with a very different style.” Mark Patinkin, columnist for the Providence Journal, commented about the book, “I write columns because I have to - it's my job. Mike Battey does it because he wants to, which makes his work real and relatable. His stuff is like a friend sharing the universal things all parents go through.”

Michael A. Battey, D.P.M. is a native Rhode Islander. He received degrees from the University of Rhode Island, and the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He maintains a private practice in foot and ankle care with a specialty in hospital based residency training, and is a faculty member at the Brown University Alpert Medical School. He has offices in several communities, including North Providence and Johnston.

Dr. Battey will speak to other authors on the genre of satire writing at the Author Expo. In addition, purchasers of the book will receive a free rubber ducky, which is his trademark theme. The book sells for $20. More information at www.ParentTrapColumns.com and on Facebook, @ParentTrapColumnsBook; Twitter at @ParentTrapBook. He is a member of the Association of RI Authors.
