8th Frozen Clam Dip, Obstaplunge set for New Year’s Day

Posted

On Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Goddard Memorial State Park beach Laid-back Fitness and Mentor Rhode Island will host the 8th annual Frozen Clam Dip & Obstaplunge, the world’s only New Year’s Day plunge featuring an obstacle course.

The event offers two plunge options: the “Frozen Clam Dip,” a traditional plunge directly into Narragansett Bay, and the “Obstaplunge,” a half-mile American Ninja Warrior style shoreline obstacle course that preceded the chilly dip.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Mentor Rhode Island, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the expansion of quality mentoring services for Rhode Island youth.

Suitable for all ages, the event offers a traditional plunge into Narragansett Bay (the “Frozen Clam Dip”) and a half-mile American Ninja Warrior style shoreline obstacle course that precedes the chilly dip (the “Obstaplunge”). This year’s event will also feature a separate Kids’ Ninja Zone that will offer open play for spectators ages 5+ on obstacles, including Laid-back Fitness’ mobile warped wall.

There will be live entertainment from Funny 4 Funds, hot drinks by New Harvest Coffee and a heating zone by G Metz Moving & Storage.

Check-in begins at 11 a.m. with the Frozen Clam Dip and Obstaplunge beginning at noon. Additional information and registration can be found at the Mentor RI website, www.mentorri.org.
