A letter of thanks from Thornton Elementary School

To the Editor:

I would like to take an opportunity to thank the Johnston community for supporting the families at Thornton Elementary School.

A special thank you goes out to so many community members who continue to support our efforts. This includes the men and women of the Johnston Fire Department for generously providing Thanksgiving baskets for our families here at Thornton, The Original Italian Bakery for providing bread, rolls, and pizza for Thornton families who come to the food bank weekly, and Hank Johnson of Education in Action for making it possible for us to partner with the RI Food Bank, which gives us a constant supply of canned goods and produce for our families.

I would also like to thank the Thornton Elementary students and families who have brought in food for our food bank, and an appreciative thank you to our Town Hall members for making it possible for one of our families to have a very Merry Christmas, as they donated many gifts for one of our needy families. A special thank you to Walgreens on Plainfield St. They also donated many gifts for one of our families.

Finally, I would like to thank the faculty and staff of Thornton School for their support. They generously bought gifts, toys, and gift cards for many of our families who needed a little help at Christmas. Without them Christmas would not be so merry for our families.

We all know, “It takes a village” to raise a child, and we definitely have a wonderful “village” here in Johnston, R.I.!
