A ‘silver lining’ in last week’s election?

To the Editor:

Despite the disappointment for most freedom lovers over last week’s elections, there is a clear silver lining that we must recognize: that almost everywhere in the USA, more and more Americans are speaking out against and rejecting the liberal status quo.

There is no major reason why Rhode Islanders cannot join the wave. Before conservatives and libertarians can regularly win elections, open-minded Ocean Staters must become comfortable that freedom-based public policies are really in their best interests, as opposed to dependency based government programs.

In order to change the hearts and minds of those voters, we must demonstrate to our neighbors that the status quo liberal polices are not enhancing their lives and that pro-jobs policies are the true solutions that can help them rise up the income ladder. This “soften the beaches” grassroots advocacy strategy is the necessary first step to reforming our state. Otherwise, politicians we support will continue to face hardened opposition.

Please be reminded that in addition to advancing pro-growth and pro-freedom policy solutions, our center also plays a leading role in organizing and building a statewide coalition that can help advance the ideas that can transform lives for the better. Our center, in conjunction with dozens of other organizations and hundreds of individuals across the state, are already hard at work to implement a new strategy to make this happen. After seeing the progress of our peer organizations across America in this regard, it’s just a matter of time – a short time – before Rhode Island will fall in line. I’m more confident than ever that our center’s work can be the catalyst to make this happen.

I write to you today with an even greater resolve than I held prior to the election. I hope you feel the same and I ask you to continue to support the important work of our center.
