Students at Chester Barrows hit a true jackpot on Friday, May 2, when the winning team from the CBS TV show “Amazing Race,” Amy Diaz and Jason Case, came to visit with Barrows students.
Amy and Jason talked with the students about their journey, which took them 35,000 miles through four continents and nine countries, including Chile, Portugal, Norway, Poland, Austria, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Japan. They finished their race in Alaska, winning $1 million and sharing memories of a lifetime.
Amy and Jason talked with the students about the challenges they faced and the adventures they had. Amy’s final advice to the students for their future included brief words with much wisdom: “Never give up. Keep a positive attitude. Be open to change. Be respectful of other cultures.”
In honor of this visit, the Barrows PTO sponsored an art contest for the students, who were invited to create artwork of an “amazing” place where they have been or that they would like to visit. Students who submitted entries for the contest had their names entered into a drawing and the winning student will have a donation made by the Barrows PTB to Amy’s “Amazing Cures” program in their name.
Amy is an R.I. native who graduated from Classical High School. She is a member of Leadership RI’s current class. She was honored earlier this year as a 2014 Latina of Influence at the Latina Conference 2014 in California. Jason Case lives in Attleboro, Mass.
