Boys & Girls Clubs receive more than $10K donation from 99 Restaurants

For local Ninety Nine Restaurants, their mission – “A passion to serve” – doesn’t stop with providing great food. It also translates into a culture of commitment to the community.

This past fall the Cranston and Westerly restaurants held multiple events that in total raised over $10,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick.

Funds were raised through raffles, bake sales, guests making direct donations and specialty menu items. One of the favorite fundraising activities was the Celebrity Bartender and Dining For a Cause event, held on two separate occasions. Guests were waited on by WBGC board members Steve Tilley versus Mark McHugh, and Child Care Director Nicole Spirito versus Associate Executive Director Karin Kavanagh. Special donation jars were placed on the bar so customers could “vote” for who should receive a pie in the face. The challengers were a “smashing success” as they all took a pie in the face, including WBGC Executive Director Lara D’Antuono.

The funds generated through this initiative, which were awarded during a special event at the Ninety Nine location at 171 New London Ave. in Cranston, support quality after school programming, including enriching activities such as homework help, fine arts, leadership opportunities, cooking classes, fitness activities and more.

For over a decade, the Ninety Nine Restaurants has shown its commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs through numerous creative initiatives. Each Ninety Nine Restaurant has a relationship with its local Boys & Girls Club and donates food, funds and/or team members’ time to help its local chapter.

“We are passionate about our relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs and we look forward to growing it even further and giving back to the communities in which we operate,” said Ninety Nine president John Grady.

In addition to its work with the Boys & Girls Clubs, the Ninety Nine Restaurant’s commitment to local communities is also exemplified in its work with The Pine Street Inn and public school systems across the Northeast.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick has been an integral part of Warwick for more than 40 years. Its two branches, located in the Norwood and Oakland Beach neighborhoods, provide services to 1,400 boys and girls, ages five to 18, in the key areas of character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness and recreation.
