The CLCF 10-year-old all-star team capped off an impressive tournament run on Sunday by defeating Washington Park 8-0 to win the Cal Ripken state championship at Ricci Field.

The tournament victory sends CLCF to Exeter, N.H. where it will represent Rhode Island in the New England regional.

Earlier in the tournament, CLCF got wins over West Warwick 11-1, Jamestown 11-0 and Washington Park 10-0

It was a dominant showing, as CLCF scored forty runs in only 18 innings while surrendering just a single run.

Andrew Travieso got the start on the mound for the championship game for CLCF and allowed no hits in four innings while racking up seven strikeouts along the way.

“I tell him just to go out there and throw strikes and that is what he does,” said manager Craig Barbarino.

Preston Kermen came in to pitch the fifth and sixth innings, only giving up two hits.

CLCF's run-scoring spree began in the top of the first inning. Matthew Barbarino led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Alex Marot, who then scored on an RBI double by Cole Carbone. In the top of the second inning RJ Fatorma led off with a double, Evan Dacey reached first base on an error scoring Fatorma, Ruben Fernandez hit an RBI single to score Dacey and Fernandez scored on a ground out by Mike Panichas.

In the top of the third, Marot walked and scored, Carbone and Fatorma walked, Dacey had an RBI walk and Fernandez also had an RBI walk. In the top of the fourth, Matthew Barbarino walked, stole second and third and came in to score on a pass ball, giving CLCF an 8-0 lead.

The win marked the second year in a row that the team captured the Cal Ripken RI State Championship. It did it last year as nine-year-olds, and came in second-place at the 9U Championship New England Regional.

This year’s regional will begin this weekend, with CLCF slated to play Saturday and Sunday.
