Highlights of the decisions made, and items discussed, at the Johnston Town Council Meeting on Tuesday, January 18.

ORDINANCES TO BE READ

The following ordinances were introduced by the council, and will be voted on during February’s council meeting during which time the public may pose questions.

Ordinance 2017-1 seeks to amend the Johnston Code of Ordinances entitled “Through Trucking” and would prohibit through trucking on Pezzullo Street.

Ordinance 2017-2 seeks to amend the Johnston Code of Ordinances entitled “Priscilla Lane Road Restrictions” which sets a weight limit for trucks and commercial vehicles on Priscilla Lane.

BUSINESS LICENSES

Pretty Nails, located at 1227 Atwood Avenue, Suite A, was granted a business operating license transfer for nail services and holiday sales. The transfer of license will not effect business operations, which will remain the same.

Personal Thread, Inc., of 35 Maribeth Avenue, was approved for a business operating license, phone calls only, for online sales of jewelry parts.

Integrated Therapies by Lorna, a center for holistic therapy, reiki and reflexology, at 1561 Hartford Avenue, had their request for a business operating license delayed until next month’s meeting while it is determined if a body works certificate is required from the Department of Health.

F&F Auto Enhancement, doing business as New England Dent Removal, at 168 Putnam Avenue, was permitted a business operating license  for auto dent removal and wheel repairs.

Located at 1501 Hartford Avenue, Tomato City Pizza Bap Enterprises, doing business as Tomato City Pizza, was permitted a pizzeria restaurant license with holiday sales.

A firearms license –phone calls only, was granted to RCB Arms located at 17 Mill Street, Apt. 2, for firearms, ammunition, accessories and training. No foot traffic.

CONSTITUENT

REQUESTS

District 1 Councilman Richard DelFino commended the Department of Public Works and the police department for their work during the last snow storm. He requested a traffic study for a stop sign at Genoa and Water Streets. He requested a letter be sent to the Department of Transportation to repave Plainfield Street and Atwood Avenue from the intersection of Plainfield Street to Central Avenue.

District 4 Councilman Robert Russo requested an update on his traffic study for a light at the Route 44 fire station. He also requested an update from the DPW in regards to several no parking signs that were recently proposed and passed.

Council President Anthony Verardo requested a letter be sent to National Grid regarding the area of 202 Central Avenue and a missing streetlight that’s creating a safety hazard.

NEW BUSINESS

2017-CP-6, a petition from Verizon New England, Inc., to place one new jointly owned pole on Heywood Lane was approved.

A resolution awarding a bid and authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement for the purchase of a 2016 Ford or similar truck with plow package and cap was unanimously approved.

An agreement for the purchase of gasoline for the town’s fuel depot under the state’s master price agreement was ratified.
