5th Pagano Charity Golf Tournament date announced

The fifth annual Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation Charity Golf Tournament & Champions Dinner, presented by Cranston Firefighters Local 1363 and Sports Illustrated, will be held Monday, Aug. 8, at the Alpine Country Club. It will be a fun-filled day with golf, great food, raffles, silent auction, and good old-fashioned neighborhood camaraderie. For more information or to make reservations, visit jimpaganofoundation.com.

Proceeds from the event this year will be used to fund academic STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs in the community. Digging for clams and more

DEM’s Division of Fish & Wildlife, in partnership with local quahogger Jody King, will teach families how to dig for clams and focus on the history and value of clamming in Rhode Island. Pre-registration is required and is limited to children who are registered for the Pursuit. Participants should assemble at the park’s beach area. Call DEM for more information and registration. On Wednesday, July 20 at 6 p.m., gather at the Champlin Scout Reservation, 223 Scituate Ave. in Cranston, and on Sunday, July 17 at 10 a.m., gather at Rocky Point State Park, Rocky Point Avenue in Warwick.

Sundaes fundraiser

The NICU Family Advisory Council (NFAC) will hold a fundraiser for Women & Infants Hospital on Thursday, July 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visit any Sundaes location – 775 Oaklawn Ave. in Cranston, 95 Greenville Ave. in Johnston, or 259 Taunton Ave. in Seekonk – and 20 percent of sales will be donated to the hospital. No flier is needed to participate. The NFAC is made up of former NICU parents and staff, and provides programming and additional support for families with premature or sick babies in the NICU. Cadence recognized

Cadence Inc., located in Cranston, has been recognized with a Superior Worksite Health Award from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce for effective programs encouraging employee health and well-being in a meaningful way.

Cadence was one of more than 75 Rhode Island businesses honored by BCBSRI and the Chamber with a Worksite Health Award at a breakfast attended by hundreds of state business leaders. The event celebrated local businesses who have demonstrated a commitment to improving Rhode Islanders’ overall health through innovative wellness programs, as companies and individuals.

Boys’ summer basketball

The Cranston YMCA will be offering a boys’ summer basketball league this year in the Peter Pastore Youth Center. The league will be broken into divisions by grade, ranging from grades three to nine.

Players should register based on the grade they will be entering in the fall. Each division will only have four teams with eight players per team so space is limited. Games will be once per week on either Tuesday or Thursday and will start between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The season will only be six weeks starting the week of July 11 and running until the week Aug. 15. The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $45 for non-YMCA members. Call the Cranston YMCA at 401-944-0444 to register.

The Cranston Youth Girls’ Basketball Association will also be running a girl’s league in the Pastore Youth Center. Anyone interested can visit cygba.org for more details.

Successful fundraiser at 99

The 99 Restaurant & Pub in Cranston celebrated its 20th anniversary with team members, guests, and members of the community on Tuesday evening, June 14, with an event that generated $1,200 for the Rhode Island National Guard Family Program.

During the anniversary event, guests enjoyed a spirited game of trivia and participated in a commemorative ceremony that honored the restaurant’s longstanding team members. A percentage of the restaurant’s total net sales that entire day were donated to help assist local military families. Chris Fortune, general managing partner of the Cranston location, proudly presented the check to the Rhode Island National Guard Family Program.

Summer Concert Series

Cranston Public Library is pleased to announce that the free Summer Concert Series will return to the William Hall Library beginning Thursday, June 30. This series, sponsored by the Cranston Parks and Recreation Department, will offer weekly concerts on the front lawn of the library. Attendees are invited to bring their own blankets, chairs, and snacks. Concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m. Performers will appear as follows:

Child Development Program

Attention, Cranston residents. Will your child be four years old by Sept. 1, 2016? If yes, CCAP’s Child Development Center is recruiting children for our 2016-17 Pre-K Program. Children eligible for this state-funded program are selected via a lottery. You may also be eligible for a free, federally funded preschool program. Morrissey College of Arts; Marissa Marandola, who graduated summa cum laude from with a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the Robert J. Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences; Samantha Mancini, who received a bachelor of arts degree in communication from the Robert J. Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences; and Meaghan Healy, who received a bachelor of arts degree in English and communication from the Robert J. Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences.

Congratulations to Adrienne Gendron of Cranston, who has been named to University of Delaware’s dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester.

Named to the dean’s list at Saint Michael’s College for the spring 2016 semester was Nicole E. White, a first-year biology major who is the daughter of Kimberly and Paul White of Cranston and a graduate of Lincoln School.

Bowl-a-Thon for Defenders of Animals

On July 30. take part in this year’s Bowl-a-Thon to benefit Defenders of Animals at Town Hall Lanes located at 1463 Atwood Ave. in Johnston. The donation fee of $20 per person includes two hours of bowling, a pizza, and a pitcher of soda for each lane. The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

Combined class reunion

On Saturday, Aug. 13, beginning at noon, there will be a joint class reunion for the Cranston High School East classes of 1966 and 1981 at the Masonic Youth Center, 116 Long St., Warwick. There is no fee. Bring your own food and beverages. They will be celebrating their 50th and 35th year reunion, respectively. The events are for classmates and invited guests only.
