The Cranston West and Cranston East boys’ and girls’ swim teams competed at the state meet at Brown University on Saturday.

East’s Austin Harris was the top performer at the meet, placing in two individual events and two relays.

Harris’ top finish was in the 100 freestyle, where he placed fifth with a time of 50.46. He also earned seventh in the 50 free with a time of 23.47, cementing himself as one of the top freestyle swimmers in the state.

The ‘Bolts’ 400 free relay team of Harris, Kevin Li, Theo Khyang and Josh Hernandez also placed seventh, while the 200 free relay team of Harris, Evan Park, Khyang and Hernandez earned eighth.

Khyang put forth a solid performance in the 200 freestyle, as did Jake Rojek in the 100 breaststroke, as each finished in 12th.

East also had a top-10 finish in the 200 medley relay, where the team of Adam Almeida, Ethan Almeida, Hernandez and Luis Veras narrowly missed a medal with a 10th-place finish.

Sai Kamsani led the Falcons with a 12th-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.14.

West’s 200 medley relay team of Kamsani, Ferland Didier, Pat Gendreau and Ryan Gonzalez placed 14th, while the same four swimmers earned the same finish in the 200 free relay, as well.

Overall, East finished in 10th for the meet, while West finished 19th.

The East girls’ team placed 21st for the state meet, with its best performance coming in the 200 free relay, where the team of Sam Levy, Sam Campbell, Rosemary Savath and Jessica Wong earned 15th.

West girls, East boys perform well at state track meet

Cranston East’s D’Angelo Piersaint broke a school record with his fourth-place finish in the 55-meter dash at the state track meet on Saturday, finishing with a time of 6.67.

Cranston West’s Oceana Williams wasn’t about to be outdone, though. Williams matched Piersaint’s performance by placing fourth in the girls’ 55-meter dash.

The Falcons’ 4x200 relay also impressed, as the team of Williams, Sofia Cadden, Eleni Grammas and Nicole Grammas finished in a time of 1:49.66 – good for fifth in the state.

West’s Jennifer Iozzi was the only other athlete to place, earning fifth in the girls’ shot put.

East’s boys’ team placed 16th for the meet, while the West girls’ team finished in 14th.
