The ’Bolts’ swim teams closed the season stoutly at the division and state meets over the last two weekends.

Last Saturday at Roger Williams University, the girls’ squad posted a third-place finish at the Division II meet.

Sophomore Katie Idskou led the way for East, posting school-record times in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly to earn two individual golds.

Seniors Sam Levy (50 free, 100 free) and Rosemary Savath (200 free, 500 free) and sophomores Eleanor Trimm (200 free and 100 butterfly) and Delia Maguire (200 IM, 500 free) also earned successful finishes to compile points for the ’Bolts.

Idskou, Maguire, Levy and Carmen Zhu then combined for a second-place finish in the medley relay to cap a successful meet for East.

“Our goal in D-II was to score points, and a lot of girls were able to get top eight, ninth, 10th or 11th,” East swim coach Bob Bouchard said. “We were able to beat some pretty decent teams.”

At the state meets at Brown University this past weekend, Idskou kept her momentum going, as she was the only girl from Cranston to place, earning sixth in the 200 individual medley.

The boys’ squad experienced more frequent success at Brown.

Josh Hernandez was the top individual finisher for the ’Bolts, earning seventh in the 50 free, as he posted the second-fastest times in school history with his swims in both the 50 and 100 frees.

The quartet of Hernandez, Theo Khvang, Dejin Zhu and Evan Park followed with impressive showings in two of the final races in the meet, placing sixth with a school-record time in the 400 free relay and taking seventh in the 200 free relay.
