Edgewood Girls Softball League holds Opening Day

Posted

On Saturday, April 18, the Edgewood Girls Softball League kicked off its 45th season with its Opening Day celebration at the Park View Middle School fields.

The day started with a parade led by the league’s tee-ball players, followed by the 12 teams from the league’s three upper divisions.

The parade headed down Park Avenue from Chester Barrows Elementary School to the Park View fields for Opening Day remarks from the league president, Rick Davies and Cranston Mayor, Allan Fung.

Other Cranston officials were on hand including Anthony Libertore, head of parks and recreation for the city of Cranston, who worked hard to get the fields looking outstanding for Opening Day.

Skills competitions such as hitting, outfield catch, infield throw, team tug-of-war, pitching and team relay races followed the Opening Day ceremonies, with each of the 12 teams sending players to represent them in these events.

The league celebrated the 45th Opening Day by taking a panoramic photo of the whole league.

Games started on Tuesday, April 21 for the league. More information on the Edgewood Girls Softball League can be found at www.edgewoodsoftball.com.
