In honor of Earth Day, Roger Williams Park Zoo hosts “Party for the Planet,” a full week of fun for families to share, presented by National Grid.

This year’s event will celebrate the rich and vibrant cultures of different areas of the zoo, and the animals that live there. The event will run from April 20 through April 24, which is school vacation week for many students in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The emphasis will be on activities, demonstrations and performances that kids and their parents will enjoy.

Each day of the week, guests will explore a different region of the world at Roger Williams Park Zoo. On Monday, visit the Fabric of Africa to hear traditional African folk tales. Tuesday celebrates Tropical America with authentic Incan music. Earth Day Wednesday features the environmental fair with eco-friendly R.I. organizations offering displays, activities and giveaways. Thursday celebrates Australasia with the animals on the Marco Polo Adventure Trek, and a special didgeridoo performance. The zoo offers fun native North American activities and performances on Friday.

Every day, people will also enjoy fun animal encounters with the zoo’s education wild animal ambassadors, entertainment, games, and music, as well as special “Keeper Talks” to learn more from the zookeepers about exhibit animals in each featured region.

Party for the Planet activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and are free with zoo admission. For more information about this event visit www.rwpzoo.org.
