Falcons dominate Brian Moretti Invitational

The Cranston West girls’ outdoor track team dominated the 2nd Annual Brian Moretti Invitational on Saturday.

The Falcons had eight first-place finishes on the day – Jennifer Iozzi in the shot put, Kaitlyn Neves in the high jump, Emilia Vaziri in the long jump, Morgan Plage in the pole vault, Shannon Feng in the 100, Oceana Williams in the 200, Nicole Grammas in the 400 and Heather DiFazio in the 1500.

It wasn’t just the top finishers that impressed, though, as the Falcons’ depth stood out in a big way.

Iozzi also earned second in the hammer throw and in the discus throw, while Olivia Pisaturo placed second in the shot put, Cam Meola second in the pole vault, Kathryn Sleboda second in the javelin throw and sixth in the discus throw, Megan Kenneally third in the 100, Christy Wardle fourth in the 100, Eleni Grammas second in the 200, Sofia Cadden third in the 200, Abby Turchetta fourth in the 200 and second in the 400, Kaitlin Capuano third in the 400, Christina Mee fourth in the 800, Sarah Lemay third in the 3000 and Neves second in the 100-meter high hurdles and third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. West’s 4x100 relay also placed second for the meet.

West’s 4x100 relay of Cadden, Eleni and Nicole Grammas and Williams also finished first at the Schomp Invitational at Coventry on Saturday.

For the Cranston East girls’ outdoor track team, its top finish was posted by Molly Botts, who claimed first in the hammer throw. East’s 4x800 relay team also placed first, while Shayna Cousineau earned second in the 1500 and fifth in the 800.

Piersaint wins 100 at Moretti Invitational

Cranston East sprinter D’Angelo Piersaint won the 100-meter dash at the Brian Moretti Invitational on Saturday.

The sophomore also placed fourth in the 200 to pace the ’Bolts.

The only other individual to place for East was distance runner Mohammed Chaghlil, who earned third in the 1500.

For West, its top finish came from Dimitri Bradley, who placed fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles. Its 4x100 relay team also placed fourth for the meet.

West’s Ken Scungio earned fifth in the 100, while Jason Cambra earned sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

West is currently 3-8 for the dual meet season, while the ’Bolts are 1-10.
