Cranston - Mayor Allan Fung today called on the Governor to put together a host committee of business leaders, mayors, and other government officials in the region to create a host committee to assist in any and all efforts Rhode Island could do in order to help Mr. Kraft bring the Superbowl to Foxboro in 2019.

"Rhode Island would be the perfect host city for the Super Bowl. As you saw over the weekend, while the Super Bowl was in New Jersey; New York was the actual host city. We have beautiful hotels, amazing retail shops, great restaurants, and most importantly, direct access to Foxboro Stadium with our commuter rail and taxi stop in Providence."

"I encourage leaders from Commerce RI, the various chambers within the state, and the convention and visitors bureau to come together with business leaders in our state and assist the Patriots and the NFL with a vision of what Rhode Island truly has to offer. We need to leverage our resources and make a strong pitch for Rhode Island. Let's show the country that Rhode Island is 'Open For Business.' As Governor, I will work together with the host committee and take every opportunity to promote partnerships with private industry throughout the region to enhance our local economy and provide greater opportunity for Rhode Island businesses."

Organizers expect this past Super Bowl to generate between $550 and $600 million for the local economy.
