Give Senator Reed the fiddle

To the Editor:

Governor Raimondo's solution to failing Rhode Island infrastructure is, of course, foolish. However, there is no disputing the fact that the infrastructure is in ruin. The governor claims there is no money to repair roads, bridges, etc., but she is wrong. There is plenty of money available. We have so much money we give it away to others. Senator Jack Reed sits on the Senate Appropriations committee.

Obama requested $146 million be "given" to Israel to pay for their new missile system. The Senate Appropriations Committee turned around and voted to increase the amount to $600 million, which is about four times greater than the Obama administration requested. Get it? The president requested 146 but the Senate Committee increased it to 600. The vote by the Appropriations Committee was unanimous. Jack Reed sits on that committee and voted to give away the $600 million, which again is four times what the president requested.

What about that, Jack? Could you please come before taxpayers and explain why you voted to increase the giveaway of $600 million, while Rhode Island infrastructure disintegrates?

Could you explain why our tax money should be given to another nation while Rhode Island falls apart?

How about the governor's lack of political courage? Why am I calling out Jack Reed for failing Rhode Island taxpayers on two counts? Why isn't she? Where is her courage? First, we pay in taxes for the giveaway, then we are denied the necessary money to rebuild Rhode Island because Reed is giving that money away to another country. Silly me, I thought Jack Reed's job was to represent Rhode Island in Congress.

Remember the story of Roman Emperor Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned? Give that fiddle to Jack Reed.
