Havana Cigar Club shines at Chamber’s Cigar Night

Posted

The Greater Cranston Chamber of Commerce (GCCC) held an unusual event in the most unusual of places last Thursday night in Warwick.

Although the GCCC has held Cigar Nights in past years, none measured up to last week’s fun and food-filled event at Havana Cigar Club, located on the upper level at 24 Quaker Lane.

For starters, no one left the 2,000-square-foot facility with the smell of cigars in their business suits or casual attire.

“This place has great ventilation,” said Steve Boyle, the GCCC’s president, who arranged the special Cigar Night with Ralph Coppolino, the publisher of Rhode Island Small Business Journal whose company sponsored the entire event. “This place and its system are unique.”

The Havana Cigar Club has an extensive HVAC and ERV system that cycles the air up to 14 times per hour.

“Never again will you walk into a meeting having everyone know you just smoked a cigar,” a spokesperson for Havana Cigar Club explained to the night’s attendees. “Never again will you have to choose between having a cigar after dinner or spending more time with your significant other. Our system ensures even non-smokers will enjoy relaxing at our club.”

“This place is such a beautiful and unusual venue,” Coppolino said. “Congratulations to the Havana [Cigar] Club owners; it’s obvious that great workmanship has gone into creating such a unique cigar club. We were honored to host such a special event for the Cranston Chamber of Commerce.”

The event also attracted what Coppolino called a “surprisingly good turnout.”

“We’re looking to do another Cigar Night with many more people and prizes,” he said. “This was such a success, we may hold a monthly Cigar Night here.”

Larry DiBoni, who doubles as GCCC Board chairman and the city of Cranston’s director of economic development, complimented the Havana Cigar Club and the night’s caterer, Village Italian Deli located at 961 Dyer Ave. in Cranston.

“Great venue, great event, great food and great cigars,” said DiBoni. “This night was special for a lot of reasons.”

Paul Eacuello, who owns and operates Paul Eacuello Insurance of Cranston, added, “This was a very good night at an exceptional facility. They’ve got a great concept here, and the selection of cigars is the biggest in the state. I’m really looking forward to going back there.”

John Fazzi, who has been hired to manage Havana Cigar Club, said the impressively well-stocked humidor has over 500 facings “and I’m constantly refilling the shelves.”

While cigars are obviously the main focus, Havana Cigar Club’s inner workings have created a setting unlike any other establishment in Rhode Island.

Located on the upper level of a mini-mall at the southern end of Quaker Lane, Havana Cigar Club is a facility with knotty pine walls, leather chairs and couches and granite top bars.

“We have three different rooms, all with wide-screen televisions,” Fazzi explained. “We have two bars; one in the member’s lounge and another in the room that’s open to the public. We also have a small conference room in the member’s lounge where even some football coaches meet to go over film and smoke a cigar.”

Havana Cigar Club is open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., but those hours, Fazzi said, “are flexible. We don’t kick anybody out if there’s a game going on or something happening.”

While the venue does not have an operating kitchen, Fazzi said “we have caterers we work with for different size events.”

Yet another unique offering at Havana Cigar Club is the 20-hour member access.

“That’s for key-card members only,” Fazzi explained, while noting there are many different levels of membership currently available. “Discounts on cigars, member-only events, 20-hour access via a key card … those are the big perks.”
