Cranston East junior James Roderick was the only Cranston wrestler to place at the state meet at the Providence Career and Technical Academy during the winter, so it’s no surprise that he’s this year’s wrestler of the year.
Roderick earned a spot in the third-place match against Warwick Vets’ Shawn Holland in the 106-pound bracket. Even though Roderick would come away on the losing end of that match, the junior’s impressive fourth-place finish was more than good enough to earn himself a spot on the podium at the conclusion of the evening.
Roderick will have the opportunity to break through and become a state champion next winter, when he backbones East during his senior season.
