John T. Sharkey, 59, passed away unexpectedly, of natural causes, on July 31, 2014.

He was the beloved son of John and Alice (Carnevale) Sharkey of Rhode Island. He was a graduate of Classical High School, Community College of Rhode Island, New England Technical Institute, and Johnson and Wales College where he received a degree in Accounting. John was a State of Rhode Island employee for over 20 years and had worked as a HVAC technician at Department of Mental Health Facility, Cranston, and at the Rhode Island Veterans & Nursing Home, Bristol, RI. Later he became a State of Rhode Island Auditor and Senior Accountant & Authorized Agent overseeing the compliance of federal and state funds & expenditures at the RI Department of Taxation and RI Department of Health. His final position was as Comptroller overseeing compliance with the Rhode Island Mental Health for group homes prior to his medical retirement for Kidney disease.

John loved the outdoors and hunting with his service dog, Hopey-Doodles, and was a member of Wincheck Gun and Smithfield Sportsman's Clubs. Also, he was a member of good standing with American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO Chapter #94, (AFSCME Chapter 94) and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid reader of the Bible and was known to those he met and as having helped them from time to time.

John is survived by his parents; his former wife, Karen I. Anjoorian; his brother and wife LTC (USA-Retired) Stephen and Angela Sharkey. His nieces, Dr. Stephanie, Suzanne, Andrew, and Annalisa Sharkey. Also his closest friends John Cain, Lester Lewis, and the technicians at Artificial Kidney Center of Warwick of DialysisCenters.ORG.

Funeral from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, South County Chapel, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt. 1A), Narragansett on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Interment will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting Hours are 4-7 p.m. on Thursday.
