The CCRI Knights golf team concluded play in the 2016 NJCAA Division III National Championship at Chautauqua golf course in Chautauqua, New York on Friday. On the final day, the Knights shot a 337, which gave them a four-day total of 1,352 to finish 12th. The overall team winner was Vincennes University from Vincennes, Indiana, which shot a 300 on the final day for a four-day total of 1,198. The individual champion was Dante Migliore from Mohawk Valley, who defeated Chase Cole in a playoff after both finished the final day with a 68 and total score of 289 for the tournament.
The Knights were led by captain Josh Macera (Cranston, R.I.), who shot an 83 on the final day for a total of 326, placing him 54th individually. Macera was followed by Dan Hayes (Pawtucket, R.I.), who shot the best round on the final day for the Knights with an 80 to finish with a total of 334, placing him tied for 65th individually. Also shooting well on the final day was Eric Carlos (Newport, R.I.), who shot an 83 to give him a total of 338 to finish in 72nd place individually. Matt O’Brien (Portsmouth, R.I.) shot a 94 on the final day for a total of 363 for an 84th-place finish. Rounding out the Knights golfers was Sam Caron (Cumberland, R.I.), who shot a 91 on the final day for a total of 365 to finish 85th overall individually.
