Eleven distinguished alumni were inducted recently into the La Salle Academy Hall of Fame at a dinner and ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.

More than 500 alumni family, friends, and supporters of La Salle attended the biennial event, which honors those who have had a long association and outstanding record of service and loyalty to La Salle.

“I believe it’s extremely important La Salle make the effort to honor the graduates who have distinguished themselves by their accomplishments,” said Brother Thomas Gerrow, F.S.C., president of La Salle, in his opening remarks. “These accomplishments include what they have done for others, and while none of us are perfect human beings, certain individuals have qualities which make them strong role models for today’s students.”

Walter McLaughlin ’57, chair of the La Salle Academy Hall of Fame Committee, noted at the conclusion of the event: “These are admirable people, and they got their strong foundations at La Salle Academy. La Salle does a great job of educating young men and women who will be the leaders of the future.”

The current La Salle Hall of Fame was established in 1996. The criteria for nomination into the Hall of Fame is reviewed every two years by the nominating committee. An alumnus, or person closely associated with La Salle Academy, may be nominated.

La Salle Academy is a Catholic College Preparatory School serving grades seven through 12 located in Providence, founded in 1871 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers.
