Marianne H. (Channon) Welshman, 102, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at her daughter's home in Charlestown, RI. She was the wife of the late James R. Welshman.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ethel O. (Carlson) Channon. She had lived in Cranston since 1937 and was a summer resident of Great Island, Narragansett for 30 years.
Marianne studied with Marcel Grandjany at the Fontainebleau School of Music in France and was an accomplished harpist. She was employed by Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home for 64 years. She was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church and a former member and Deacon of Meshanticut Park Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Harp Society, Charminade Club and the Morning Musical Club.
She is survived by four children: daughter Linda Pearce Lawrence and husband, Ken of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Charlestown, sons Lynn Welshman and wife, Barbara of Miami, Fla., Dana H. Welshman and wife, Elizabeth of Barrington and Dean H. Welshman and wife, Joy of Great Island, Narragansett; ten grandchildren: Richard Pearce and wife, Patty, Dean B. Welshman and wife, Beth, Wendy Pearce Jackman and husband, John, Dana Sue Studley and husband, John, Andrew Pearce and wife, Michele, Kara Joy Franklin and husband, Steve, Emilie Desrochers, Taylor J. Welshman, Brian L. Welshman and Erin J. Welshman; eleven great-grandchildren: Brandon and Sarah Jackman, Caleigh and Aiden Pearce, Keira Pearce, River Studley, Isabelle Desrochers, Leah and Kyla Welshman, Camryn and Connor Franklin.
Her memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Wickford, 44 Main Street, North Kingstown on Saturday, August 30 at 1:30 p.m. Calling hours will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, Friday, August 29 from 5-7 p.m.
