A Cranston man is in custody after a Monday standoff at a Warwick motel ended peacefully.
Warwick Police said Robbie Zeigler, 39, is facing charges of domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, using a firearm when committing a crime of violence and not having the license required to carry a pistol in connection with the incident at the Motel 6 at 20 Jefferson Boulevard, which drew response from elements of Warwick’s SWAT team, including the hostage negotiation unit.
Police said officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of a male firing a gun in the motel parking lot. Upon officers’ arrival, the man had retreated into one of the rooms and barricaded himself inside.
According to police, it was reported that the man involved was having an altercation with his wife, although it remains undetermined whether the gun was fired at the woman.
Zeigler surrendered to police after approximately one and a half hours of negotiating, according to police. He was found to be in possession of a loaded, revolver-style handgun.
