Patricia Ann Colwell Smith of Margate, Florida (formerly of 524 Middle Road, East Greenwich, RI) passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the age of 79. She had been battling lung cancer since her diagnosis in late 2013. She had been living in southern Florida with her youngest child, Linda Faye Smith.

Pat was born in Hazard, Kentucky on February 26, 1936, to Samuel and Shirley Colwell. After college she married Richard L. Smith in Southport, Connecticut, and they were stationed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1957. They also lived in San Diego, California and Pensacola, FL before moving to East Greenwich, Rhode Island in 1965. The couple had three children: Grant Maloy Smith, of Wakefield, RI, Wendy Loring Smith of Attleboro, Massachusetts and Linda Faye Smith of Margate, FL.

Pat lived an active life in East Greenwich. She not only served on the personnel board for the Town of East Greenwich, but she played an active role for many years in the Academy Players. She worked part time for the Westminster Unitarian Church, and was also involved in a lot of the church functions. Pat also was Human Resources Manager for many years in several companies in Rhode Island. In 2004, Pat moved to the old Pawtuxet area of Cranston, RI where she was an integral part of the Gaspee Days where she made life long friends. She worked part time for many years at Trinity Repertory, which she loved, as theater was one of her greatest joys. In 2004 Pat retired to southern Florida where she lived with her daughters Wendy and Linda for a number of years.

Richard predeceased her on November 16, 2014. Pat is survived by all three of her children, Grant and wife, Susan (Schmedindhoff) Smith, Wendy and Linda; as well as three grandchildren: Taylor Maloy Smith, Katherine Marie Smith and Richard Alec Smith; and her brother Samuel Colwell and his children Christopher and Kenneth, and his wife Darby.

A memorial service will be held at the Westminster Unitarian Church, Kenyon Avenue, East Greenwich on Sunday, October 4, 2015, starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends making a donation in Pat’s name, to the Women in Distress Organization (http://womenindistress.org/ways-to‐donate/donate-now/) or to the Animal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) (http://www.aspca.org/donate).
