PawSox to host KDMF Day on May 3

The Pawtucket Red Sox are going for a grand slam to help raise awareness about drinking and distracted driving.

The Kate DeCubellis Memorial Foundation (KDMF) is proud to announce KDMF Day will be held at McCoy Stadium on May 3.

“The PawSox are a very popular and well-respected organization, and we are very fortunate to have their support,” said Joel Chase, the foundation’s president. “The PawSox financial support, derived from ticket sales, will go a long way towards furthering our efforts to promote public awareness and make a difference, most especially in the areas of substance abuse, distracted and drunk driving.”

The foundation is selling tickets to the 1:05 p.m. game against the Durham Bulls. The PawSox are generously donating half of the proceeds from tickets sold through the foundation to KDMF.

“The PawSox are very proud to team up with the Kate DeCubellis Memorial Foundation for this great cause,” said Pawtucket Red Sox Vice President of Marketing Michael Gwynn. “We look forward to being part of the fundraising event at McCoy Stadium at the May 3 PawSox game.”

John and Meg DeCubellis know first-hand the devastating toll impaired driving can have on a family. On Oct. 29, 1999, a drunken driver killed their 13-year-old daughter, Katie. Since then, the KDMF has strived to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence and distracted driving.

To date, The KDMF has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships, prizes and donations. Each year they hold an annual writing contest and road race.

The foundation’s public service announcements will be played on the Jumbotron, and the PawSox will present John and Meg DeCubellis with a check for the tickets sold through the foundation.

To help support the KDMF, please be sure to purchase tickets at kdmf.org or contact Linda Kelly or Joel Chase at 401-739-9900.
