Cranston police have arrested six Providence men for allegedly stealing rims and tires from a vehicle on Cleveland Street.

Juan Gutierrez, 34 of 155 Colfax St. #2; Paul Lemon, 21 of 120 Waverly St.; Jovan Lemon, 20, of 120 Waverly St.; Tyrone Cruz, 25, of 436 Cranston St.; Jose Ortega, 21 of 135 Burnett St.; and William Houston, 26 of 141 Alabama Ave., are all charged with larceny over $1,500, conspiracy and tampering with a motor vehicle in connection with the Jan. 26 incident, according to a statement from Chief of Police Col. Michael Winquist.

All six were arraigned in Third District Court in Warwick the same morning.

Police said officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4 a.m. following a report of an in-progress theft of rims and tires from a vehicle on Cleveland Street. Witnesses told officers four people wearing black hats and masks had left the scene heading toward Puritan Avenue in a white, newer-model Nissan.

Responding officers reportedly located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a stop, while also stopping an SUV that was following closely behind the first car.

“During the stop, officers observed a vehicle jack and tire iron in the rear of the SUV and four rims and tires were located in the white suspect vehicle, matching those that were taken from the vehicle on Cleveland Avenue,” the chief’s statement reads.
