Investigation leads to child porn charges against Dyer Avenue man

A Cranston man is facing child pornography charges following a local task force investigation, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Russell Mallett, 31, of 575 Dyer Ave., Apt. B15, is charged with possession of child pornography and transfer of child pornography. He was arrested Monday by members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and was held following his arraignment that day in Third District Court.

According to a release from state police, members of the task force during an investigation identified the Internet connection at Mallett’s address as having been allegedly used to share images and videos of child pornography. A search warrant was executed at the residence on Monday, police said, and child pornography was found stored on digital media allegedly belonging to Mallett.

“At this time, there are no indications of inappropriate conduct between Mr. Mallett and minor children,” state police said in the release.

Mass. man charged in Cranston gas station robbery

A Massachusetts man is in custody after allegedly robbing a Cranston gas station.

Shawn Bailey, 28, of 61 Industrial Pike in Plymouth, Mass., is charged with second-degree robbery and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned March 5 in Third District Court in Warwick and ordered held on $10,000 bail with surety.

According to a press release from Chief of Police Col. Michael J. Winquist, officers responded to the Shell gas station at 1207 Pontiac Ave. just before 11 p.m. on March 4. The clerk reported that a white male in his mid-20s, wearing gray sweatpants and a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, had entered the store, indicated he had a gun and demanded that the clerk open the cash register.

The suspect then reached over the counter and took $154 in cash. He then kissed the clerk’s hand, the release states, before fleeing the scene in a white Pontiac G6 in the direction of Route 37.

A description of the suspect was sent to nearby police departments, and shortly thereafter Warwick police reported locating a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle abandoned at Post Road and Lincoln Avenue in their community.

At the same time, Cranston police received information that a man matching the suspect’s description had entered All Stars Bar and Grill on Airport Road in Warwick. Cranston and Warwick officers entered the establishment and found the suspect, who was taken into custody following a brief struggle.

Man charged with threatening to shoot Mass. police officers arrested

A man who allegedly threatened the lives of police officers in a Massachusetts community through a Facebook post was taken into custody in Cranston on March 1.

Jerome McIntyre, 31, with no permanent address, was arrested at Harrington Hall following a brief struggle with officers, according to a press release from Chief of Police Col. Michael J. Winquist.

At the time of his arrest, McIntyre was found in possession of a knife with a blade longer than three inches.

McIntyre was arraigned March 2 and ordered held for violating the terms of bail on a previous charge out of East Providence. He additionally faces charges of resisting arrest and possession of a weapon other than a firearm (knife).

According to the chief’s release, Quincy, Mass., police received information on March 1 that McIntyre had threatened to shoot and kill officers in their community over a property dispute in which he had been involved. The threats were allegedly made through a posting on the social network.

Quincy police obtained warrants for McIntyre’s arrest on charges of threatening to commit a crime and witness intimidation.

Cranston police, who located McIntyre at Harrington Hall, also found he was wanted on a pair of Rhode Island bench warrants for unrelated incidents.

Quincy police intend to pursue McIntyre’s extradition once his legal matters in Rhode Island have been settled.
