2 indicted in knifepoint robbery

Two teenagers have been indicted in connection with the knifepoint robbery of a pedestrian that took place in November 2015, according to the office of Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.

Kwame Colon, 19, of 9 Welfare Ave. in Cranston, and Jaylen Johnson, 18, of 431 Auburn St. in Cranston, each faces counts of first-degree robbery, conspiracy, and simple assault. They are due for arraignment in Providence Superior Court on Feb. 24.

Colon was arrested in November at the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick after being sought in connection with multiple incidents over a multi-week span, including a pair of home break-ins on Beckwith Street and Reservoir Avenue, a vehicle theft, and the pedestrian robbery at the intersection of Melrose and Rugby streets.

Report of suspicious man

A parent’s report of a suspicious man seen peering into a child’s bedroom window at the Dean Estates apartments on Oaklawn Avenue has caught the attention of worried community members on social media, while police are investigating.

Joey Tiberi, in a post widely shared on Facebook, wrote that he was taking out trash on the night of Feb. 3 when he saw a man – described as bald, white, standing roughly six feet tall, weighing approximately 230 pounds, and wearing a dark jacket, pants, and boots – in back of his home.

“I chased him down Oaklawn Ave. barefoot and couldn’t catch him,” the post reads. A knife was apparently found near the window, although no suspect was located.

Lt. Russell Henry on Tuesday said police continue to investigate, although at this point there is little information available. The suspect’s motivation, he said, “could have been a lot of things,” and there is no evidence pointing to any one explanation. The apartment complex has been the target of robberies since flooding in 2013 forced many residents out.
