2 charged in incident after Trump rally

Two men have been charged in connection with an incident that occurred following Donald Trump’s recent rally in Warwick.

Josh Sandin, 19, of 51 King St. in Warwick, and Alexander Carrion, 22, of 25 Iona St. in Providence, are each charged with counts of simple assault and disorderly conduct. Both were arrested April 27, arraigned before a justice of the peace, and released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a May 9 court date.

According to a statement from Rhode Island State Police, troopers assigned to the Republican presidential frontrunner’s April 25 rally at the Crowne Plaza began an investigation after reports of an assault that took place in a crowd on Greenwich Avenue. That initial probe was “inconclusive,” according to police, “due to conflicting witness accounts and a lack of cooperation by Sandin and Carrion.”

According to police, troopers on April 26 obtained and viewed videos of the incident that had been circulating via social media.

“The videos depicted a very volatile and tumultuous situation on Greenwich Avenue,” the statement reads. “The videos also showed Alexander Carrion push his way through the Trump supporters in an aggressive manner. Carrion moved towards Josh Sandin and spit into his face. Sandin and Carrion subsequently began pushing and shoving each other. As they were being separated by bystanders, Sandin spit at Carrion.”

NY man pleads guilty in ATM skimming scheme

A New York man has pleaded guilty in connection with a scheme to steal the personal information of consumers using ATM machines.

Moises Morales Cano, 31, of Astoria, N.Y., entered the plea to counts of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft this week in U.S. District Court in Providence, according to the office of U.S. District Attorney Peter F. Neronha.

According to the release, Cano admitted that between Jan. 1 and April 4 of 2015, “he conspired with another individual to attach skimming devices on ATMs at banks in several communities in Rhode Island and Connecticut.” Authorities say the debit cards of approximately 1,329 individuals were comprised as a result of the scheme, resulting in an overall loss of nearly $709,600.

Cano was arrested Sept. 9, 2015, in Queens, N.Y., and has been in federal custody since. His sentencing is scheduled for July 20.

Warwick, Cranston, Johnston, Smithfield, and East Providence police assisted the U.S. Attorney’s office and U.S. Secret Service with the investigation.

Cranston man charged in CVS robbery

A Cranston man is being held without bail in connection with a robbery at one CVS store in Warwick and an attempted robbery at another of the company’s locations in that city.

According to police, Michael Graham, 47, attempted to rob the CVS store located at 2790 Post Road in the Greenwood neighborhood of Warwick on the morning of April 24 but left with nothing. Graham was reported to have a knife at the time.

Shortly after that incident, police received a call about a robbery in progress at the CVS at 767 Warwick Ave. in Warwick. Scissors that were taken from inside the store were used in the incident, in which Graham escaped with an undetermined amount of money, according to Warwick Detective Capt. Christopher Stewart.

Although Graham escaped before police arrived, Stewart said they were able to track him to the Motel 6 located at 20 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick because he had taken a taxi there. Graham was taken into custody without incident and transported to Warwick Police headquarters.

While at the station, Stewart said Graham became unruly in the cell. He was later transported to Kent Hospital after requesting medical treatment for a matter unrelated to the robbery.

Graham was arraigned April 25 in district court and ordered held without bail on one count of first-degree robbery and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police seek suspect

in Rogaine thefts

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of stealing the hair re-growth medication Rogaine from CVS stores in Cranston and elsewhere across the state.

On social media, Cranston police posted images of the suspect taken from surveillance video. A message posted with the images indicates the suspect is “usually accompanied by an accomplice waiting outside in a vehicle.”
