A Cranston man has been indicted on two counts each of first-degree child molestation and first-degree sexual assault.

Miguel Panadero, 43, of 2 Lowell St., is alleged to have molested and sexually assaulted a young girl on multiple occasions between May 1, 2014, and Jan. 16, 2016. The alleged crimes took place in Cranston and were investigated by Cranston police.

Panadero is scheduled for arraignment in Superior Court on May 25.

Man arrested with gun after report of Providence shooting

A man police believe to have been involved in a Providence shooting was arrested in Cranston last week while in possession of a loaded handgun.

Gregory Garmon, 33, of 39 Carlton St. in Cranston, was taken into custody without incident on the evening of May 3. He is charged with carrying a pistol without a license or permit, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence. He was arraigned in Third District Court and ordered held on $15,000 bail with surety.

According to Cranston police, authorities in Providence informed neighboring departments of shots being fired on Comstock Parkway in their city shortly before 5:30 p.m. on May 3. Roughly two hours later, based on a detailed description of the suspect vehicle, police stopped Garmon’s vehicle on Carlton Street.

“A search of the vehicle was conducted, which resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, additional 9mm ammunition and a small quantity of marijuana,” reads a statement from police.

Two enter pleas in gunpoint robberies

Two of the four suspects in a string of gunpoint robberies in Cranston and Providence last year have entered pleas in their respective cases.

Sixto Javier, 20, of Providence, pleaded guilty to robbery and firearms charges in Superior Court last week. Under the terms of a plea agreement, he received a 27-year sentence, with 17 to serve and the remainder suspended with probation.

Jonathan Morales, 17, entered a plea of nolo contendre in Family Court on April 28 to charges of first-degree robbery and conspiracy. Under the terms of a plea agreement, he received a 20-year sentence, with 12 years to serve and the rest suspended with probation. His sentence will begin at the Rhode Island Training School pending a “modification hearing,” after which a judge will determine whether to modify the sentence or continue it at the Adult Correctional Institution.

The robberies in question occurred on Aug. 25, 2015, and involved five victims. Authorities say Morales and Javier conspired with 21-year-old Daniel Mangru of Providence and another juvenile to commit the crimes.

“They targeted unsuspecting pedestrians. For each robbery, Morales acted as the driver, while the adult co-defendants would jump out of the car and rob each victim at gunpoint with a .380 caliber pistol. As a result of these confrontations, two victims were pistol whipped and sustained injuries,” reads a statement from the office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin.

Mangru previous pleaded guilty to multiple charges and is awaiting sentencing.

Providence Detectives Emilio Matos and Tom Kane and Cranston Detective Donald Salvatore led the investigation.
