BRASS KNUCKLES

Officer Joshua Mason reports he was on patrol at around 10:25 a.m. on May 21 when he saw a pickup truck parked across two lanes of traffic on Cranston Street and two men beside it in the middle of an argument.

Mason said he separated the two men and spoke with one of them. That man reportedly told the officer he had just been released from detox at Rhode Island Hospital and was minding his own business as he walked down the street when the man in the pickup stopped and accused him of stealing his cell phone.

The other party was interviewed by another officer, and said he worked at a gas station and was working on a car and had to step away from it for a moment and left his phone in the car. He said one of his coworkers told him he saw man go inside the car and come out again and take off down the street. He said he chased the man, caught up with him, confronted him about the phone and took the phone back. He said he did not want to press charges because he got his phone back, but Mason saw that the other man had no ID and patted him down for weapons. He said he found a set of brass knuckles in the man’s pocket.

Hiroshi Dominguez, 21, of 54 Chamber St. in Providence, was charged with weapons other than firearms that are prohibited.

WARRANTS

Officer Christopher Leclair reports he stopped a car for having two brake lights out of order on May 16 and ended up arresting the passenger on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear for a shoplifting charge and a suspended license charge. Gary Pagnozzi, 54, of 9 Stevens Road in Cranston, was taken to headquarters where he was held for arraignment.

Officer Ryan Shore reports he was on patrol around 4:50 p.m. on May 16 when he saw a man he knew to have a suspended license driving a car on Cranston Street. He said he pulled the car over and arrested Vincent Gonzalez, 23, of 52 Roger Williams Circle in Cranston, and charged him again with driving on a suspended license and for an outstanding warrant from Family Court for non-support that was issued the day before. He was later transported to the ACI.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Christopher Leclair reports arresting a man at the Walmart on Plainfield Pike on May 16 after loss prevention at the store told him they saw him wheeling a cart throughout the store and picking up a number of items before wheeling the cart out of the store without paying for the goods. He was charged with stealing $264.05 in merchandise. Jordan Mendonca, 21, of 19 Mowry St. in Central Falls was taken to headquarters, where he was booked and then held for arraignment.

Stephen T. Domenico, 19, of 136 Fairweather Ave. in Cranston, was arrested for shoplifting at Bob’s Store on Oaklawn Avenue on May 18. Loss prevention at Bob’s told Officer Daryl Fish he saw Domenico select a Boston Bruins wallet and watch combo worth $49.99 and conceal it in his pocket before leaving the store without paying for it. Domenico was taken to headquarters, booked and then released with a summons for District Court.

April L. Moretti, 29, of 796 Plainfield St. in Providence, was charged with shoplifting at Bob’s Store on May 20. Loss prevention told Officer Derik Braga they saw her come into the store and go directly to the service counter to return some items before continuing to shop. They said she took sneakers out of a box and concealed them in a shopping bag and then concealed a pair of shorts. They said she met up with a male who fled when she was stopped outside for not paying for the concealed goods. Braga said she had an outstanding Superior Court warrant for failure to appear for a suspended license charge and a failure to appear in district court for shoplifting. She later transported to the ACI.

Shemekia R. Washington, 42, of 71 Freeway Drive in Cranston, was charged with being a habitual offender on May 20 after she was arrested for shoplifting at Marshall’s on Oaklawn Avenue. Officer Wayne Russell reported he was on his way back to Cranston after District Court in Warwick when they heard an attempt to locate for a black female in a black Infiniti fleeing Marshall’s, heading south on Bald Hill Road with shoplifted merchandise. The car eluded Warwick and Cranston police, but another officer traced the plate to 71 Freeway Drive in Cranston and had the suspect’s daughter call the woman on her cell phone and tell her to return to Marshall’s or a warrant would be issued for her arrest. Detective Paula Duffy met Washington at Marshall’s, where she was patted down and confessed that she threw the stolen goods out of the car on Route 95 north before she came back to Marshall’s. In any event, she was charged with felony shoplifting for being a habitual offender. She was later released on $10,000 surety bail.
