STEALING SCRAP

A Cranston officer reports arresting Albert P. Pennacchia, 64, of 204 Greenville Ave. in Johnston, for allegedly taking the broken base of a lamppost. An officer who was on his way to work around 3:25 p.m. on July 26 told fellow officers he saw Pennacchia take the base from the corner of Webster Avenue and Cranston Street and put it in the hatch of his Ford Explorer and drive off. Other officers stopped Pennacchia at Garfield and Cranston and one of them opened the hatch and the base of the lamppost fell out and hit him on the thigh and shin. Pennacchia was later released with a summons for District Court.

VEHICLE TOWED

A Cranston police officer reports he was suspicious of a silver Acura that was parked on the side of the road at Third and Heath avenues around 7:18 p.m. on July 25. The officer reported he became suspicious of the car because it was not parked near any houses and it had tinted windows but he could see that someone was inside and the motor was running. He said he ran the plate and it came back as the wrong color and with a suspended registration. He said the driver told him he was waiting for a friend to show him a gym on that street and he wasn’t parked in the lot of the gym because he thought that would look suspicious. The officer informed the driver that his license and registration were suspended and issued him a ticket and called a two truck for the car. Because the officer never actually saw him driving the car, he was not charged with driving an unregistered car on a suspended license.
