Stopping gun violence

If you’re trying to stop gun violence, why is it still on the streets?

Gun violence is affecting many of us in our community. There are many problems with gun violence, especially innocent people dying because of it. One of our main problems is that state officials are not enforcing gun laws as much as we would like. More things should be happening to try to decrease gun violence.

We would like to solve this problem by hosting a statewide Gun Buyback Program. This is usually sponsored by local businesses and private donors. We also want to create a legislation, to support our cause. This legislation that we plan on creating will make sure that the Gun Buyback will keep running yearly.

Although the Gun Buyback Program is not the only way to get guns off the streets, but it is the start of a puzzle. This will not end all the violence, but we believe it can make a change. People say that guns are for their protection, but who would you need to protect yourself from, if there were no guns on the streets?

We would like to reach out to the attorney general and the police chief to come to Roger Williams Middle School to talk to us. We hope you would be able to complete this project by May 11, 2015 or after. Thank you for taking your time to read this. We hope to start this program as soon as possible!

In answer to your question; Who would you need to protect yourself from? The Government. That is why the Second Amendment was put into place to begin with. It is also the reason we have Section 1 Article 22 in the RI Constitution. there were millions of people killed in many countries in the last century by their own Governments. That will never happen here you say? The U.S. Army was sent in to stop veterans of WW1 in Washington, D.C.. How about when a corrupt Government fixing elections in Athens, Tennessee? Police you say? The one of the seats in the corrupt election the citizens were stopping was for sheriff.

The problem is not the firearm it is the person behind the tool. You don't blame a hammer for crappy carpentry. Let's not try to make criminals out of good people with the sweep of a pen. How many of these shootings in Providence and around the State are caused by people that already have records and have been released back onto our streets? Let's start there with those that have proven to be unworthy of being in society.
