Summer food program feeds kids for free

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about keeping your children healthy while school is out. Aramark, in conjunction with Cranston Public Schools and the Cranston Parks and Recreation Department, will be providing free meals to children in the Cranston community this summer.

This summer, meals will be served at the following locations:

Bain Playground, Wednesday, June 22, through Friday, Aug. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Gladstone Street School, Wednesday, June 22 through Friday, Aug. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are no income requirements or registration; any child under age 18 may come to eat. These sites are open to the community at large and may only limit the site’s total enrollment for reasons of security, safety, or control. Lunches will be provided on a first come, first served basis for the above specified dates and time frames. Please note that all meals must be consumed on site for food safety reasons.

Help us kick-off our summer lunch program by attending our “Summer Lunch Kick-Off BBQ” at Gladstone School Hard Top, 50 Gladstone St., on July 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be having an inflatable obstacle course, which will be run by the Greater Providence YMCA. The lunch will feature hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon, milk, and Baked Lays. For more information on this event or the summer breakfast and lunch program, contact the Foodservice Office at 401-270-8685 or email wright-patricia2@aramark.com.

Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like Aramark at Cranston Public Schools to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer. For more information about the national Summer Food Service Program, visit fns.usda.gov/cnd/summer.
