A 20-year-old Cranston resident has been arrested for the second time in connection with a spate of break-ins in the city’s Auburn neighborhood.
Kyle Calderara, of 86 Waterman Ave., was arraigned in Third District Court Friday on three counts of breaking and entering, one count of receiving stolen goods and one count of possession of heroin, according to police. He is being held at the Adult Correctional Institution as a bail violator, with his next scheduled court appearance set for Aug. 6.
Calderara had previously been arrested June 20 on two counts of breaking and entering in connection with a pair of break-ins that occurred in the vicinity of his residence, according to police. He was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment on those charges.
In a statement, police said within weeks of Calderara’s release, detectives observed an increase in break-ins “with the same modus operandi” in the Auburn neighborhood. Detective Joseph Hopkins subsequently found that Calderara “was actively pawning jewelry, watches and other stolen goods at local pawn shops.”
Surveillance was initiated in the area, through which detectives identified Calderara. He is said to have admitted to breaking into homes on Crothers Avenue, Mauran Street and Speck Avenue, and to have had a backpack containing stolen items in his possession at the time of his second arrest.
