A child’s wheelchair that was stolen and sold for scrap has been recovered, according to Cranston police, and two suspects have been charged
Richard A. Rebello, 43, of 20 Atwood Ave. in Providence, is charged with receiving stolen goods over $1,500, while Dorothy Troll, 72, of 20 State St. in Providence, is charged with larceny over $1,500.
Both were arraigned and released pending a future court date, according to Rhode Island State Police Lt. Matthew Moynihan.
The non-motorized wheelchair was found missing from the 10-year-old child’s front porch on Webster Avenue on Aug. 14, according to police.
The next day, after following up on tips, state police and Cranston officers were advised that the wheelchair had been sold for scrap at Intercity Recycling Services on Carlsbad Street in Cranston. Police said the wheelchair was recovered and found to be in good condition, and was returned to the child.
Moynihan said Troll and Rebello are mother and son, and allegedly committed the wheelchair theft as part of a string of heists to obtain scrap metal.
