Regional children with congenital heart defects and heart disease got an opportunity to attend Gabrielle’s Heart Camp beginning on Aug. 13. The camp, which is located at Cub World in Burrillville, is hosting 67 campers ranging from 8 to 15 years of age. It is the only camp in Rhode Island designed exclusively for children with congenital heart defects and heart disease.
The camp comes free of cost to the children, as its cost is underwritten by charitable donations. Whole Foods’ Cranston location, an annual donor, provides the majority of food for the session. Members of the staff will also attend the camp this year to provide demonstrations to campers on how to make heart healthy smoothies at home.
Heart Camp is the signature program funded by the Gabrielle Dinsmore Heart and Hope Fund.
“It means so much for these kids, who face difficult medical challenges, to be able to attend a camp specially designed to meet their needs, and have a regular summer camp experience like thousands of other children have each summer,” said Louise Dinsmore, founder of the Heart and Hope Fund.
