The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will bring their classic concert sound to the completely renovated historic Park Theatre in Cranston Saturday, March 9. Seventy-five years after the orchestra was originally formed, they continue to play unmistakable high-energy jazz creations, becoming the most sought-after big band in the world today.

Originally formed in 1938 by Glenn Miller, the orchestra stakes claim to many chart-topping hits such as "In the Mood," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "At Last" and "[I've Got a Gal In] Kalamazoo." Hollywood played a crucial role in boosting the group's popularity by releasing "The Glenn Miller Story" on the big screen.

While the band has changed leadership many times since the disappearance of Glenn Miller in 1946, the present Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since. Today, fans continue to flock to see the most popular jazz orchestra of the big band era; which plays more than 300 shows a year.

For their Rhode Island show, the band, led by Nick Hilscher, will showcase their signature sound of trumpets, saxophones, clarinets, and flutes playing in harmony on the Park's renovated stage. Additionally, a portion of the Theatre's front seats will be removed to provide guests space to dance the night away.

"The Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all-time," said Yusuf Gandhi, Executive Director of the Park Theatre. "They have been touring the world for years and now Rhode Islanders have an opportunity to enjoy their swinging big band sound in the intimate atmosphere of the Park Theatre - we're really excited about this show."

The Glenn Miller Orchestra will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Tickets are priced at $22 and $27 and are currently on sale. Tickets are available by calling the Box Office directly at 467-7275 or through the theatre's secure website, www.ParkTheatreRI.com.

The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston. Free parking is available for all shows.

Built in 1924, the Park Theatre served as a cultural landmark for nearly eight decades until its closing in 2002. Following seven years and nearly $10 million in renovations, the Park Theatre has been reborn as Rhode Island's newest theatre and performing arts center. As a fully-equipped, state of the art multi-purpose facility, the Park Theatre features concerts, comedy, theatrical performances, opera, dance recitals, children's and family shows, and more. Through its extensive renovations, the Park Theatre boasts a larger, deeper stage and 1,000 plush seats that feature significantly more legroom between rows than most theatres. The facility also includes the Stage Door Restaurant and Lounge, a pre-show destination that offers a unique environment for guests to indulge in dinners, appetizer offerings and cocktails before a performance. Free parking is available for all events behind City Hall. For more information, visit www.ParkTheatreRI.com.
