AAA survey finds gas prices up 6 cents

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up six cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s July 15 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.75 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is four cents lower than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.79. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was fourteen cents higher at $2.89.

“Gas prices over the last week increased for the majority of motorists east of the Mississippi,” said Diana Imondi, AAA Northeast Manager of Public Affairs & Traffic Safety. “More expensive crude oil prices, robust demand, and decreasing gasoline supply all contributed to the higher prices.” Hurricane Barry appears to have had little impact on average prices across the country.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $2.59 to a high of $2.99.
