Tri-City Elks

Meat raffles for Rosemary's Wish Kids will be held April 7 and 21 from 2-4 p.m. There are four tables full of meats and gifts. Also a 50/50 raffle. Come and have some fun while supporting such a wonderful cause.

Dave Howard will be performing April 27 at 8:30 p.m. Entrance fee is $6 at the door.

Country Line Dancing Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person, and the instructor is Lori Enos. Come on down with your boots and kick up your heals.

Zumba will take place on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 p.m.  Cost is $6 per person and the instructor is Lorraine Blanchard.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting April 3 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Chatham Village Garden Club

The Chatham Village Garden Club will hold its annual dinner meeting April 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Sophia's Tuscan Grille. The restaurant is located at 1729 Warwick Avenue in Warwick. New members will be welcomed to the club and current members are reminded that annual dues are accepted at the April meeting.

Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place April 4 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. After a short business meeting, Tommy Tunes will entertain with music and songs. There will be  refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join Cranston Senior Guild; Cranston residency is not required. Dues are only $12 for the year. Make sure to mark your calendar for the next meeting, which will be held May 2.

Warwick Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold open registration for their spring programs April 7 from l2-2 p.m. at Thayer Arena, 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Their Learn To Skate group lessons taught by professional instructors will begin April 2l and end June 24 (nine weeks). Spring Literacy Tutor Training Session

You can make a difference in someone’s life by giving the gift of literacy. By giving just a few hours per week, you can help develop a stronger community while helping your neighbors improve their skills. Literacy Volunteers of Kent County has adult students excited to learn English as a Second Language or Basic Literacy who are awaiting a tutor. The next tutor training session begins April 9. Warwick Women’s Club

The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Warwick Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center in Warwick. The Warwick Women's Club is a civic/community-oriented club that provides funds and/or goods for local organizations such as the Norwood Boys' and Girls' Club, Project Undercover, House of Hope, and RI Mentoring. There are many activities that the club handles throughout the year including Pinwheels for Prevention of Child Abuse, thank you cards and Valentine cards for our Veterans, and activities relating to domestic abuse. NARFE Meeting

The next monthly meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees South County chapter 998 will be held April 10 at the Cowesett Inn at 226 Cowesett Ave., West Warwick. Lunch will be ordered off the menu at 12:15 p.m., with the fellowship and meeting to follow. The meeting will focus on preparing for the May 18 meeting that will include all Rhode Island chapters. The annual Conimicut Village Spring Fling Fundraiser is scheduled for April 14 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Benedict's Parish Hall on Transit Street. The evening includes a cash bar, dinner, music, raffles and silent auctions. Funds from the event cover the cost of the flowers and the U.S. flags that decorate the village from May through September. Tickets are $27 for adults, $10 for children and can be purchased online at www.conimicut.org, at Davies Service Center, at St Benedict's church or by calling 524-8404.

Dinner & Comedy Show

The Regina Coeli Society of St. Mary Church is hosting a dinner and comedy show April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Feast Society Hall on Phenix Avenue, Cranston. The Italian dinner is being catered. A “divine” comedy of belly laughs, blessings, Blarney and Bingo will be presented by David Kane in the role of Father Patrick Aloysius Misgivings. There will be stories and one-liners from miracles and marriage to bazaars. This hilarious interactive comedy includes a collection, a raffle and an actual bingo game. Greenwood Volunteer Fire Co. #1 is holding a breakfast fundraiser April 22 from 8-10:30 a.m. at Dave’s Bar & Grill, 2339 Post Road. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 5 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Cornerstone Church Food Pantry

Pilgrim Senior Center

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
