CACTC students bring home 58 medals in RI SkillsUSA event

At last Wednesday night’s Rhode Island SkillsUSA awards ceremony held at the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium, the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center (CACTC) students brought home the most medals in the entire state, including those competing at the college level.

In total, the students won 58 medals, bringing home 18 gold, 26 silver and 14 bronze medals. They brought home the most silver awards and the second most gold awards statewide, coming in just behind the Providence Career and Technical Academy’s 22 gold. All students who won gold medals now have the opportunity to compete at the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky, in June. According to the 2018 SkillsUSA Rhode Island Championships 2018 Event winner list, the following CACTC students received medals in their respective competitions:

Action Skills:

Advertising Design:

Basic Health Care Skills:

Extemporaneous Speaking:

Health Knowledge Bowl:

Director Zachary Farrell was excited about this year’s results. “We are absolutely ecstatic with the showing that our CACTC students made this year at SkillsUSA. The competition not only provides our students with a great opportunity to showcase their skills they have learned in their respective career and technical programs, but it also validates their hard work throughout the school year and that of their teachers,” he said. In addition to the students’ personal success, Farrell was proud of the school’s showing statewide. “We are also extremely proud of the fact that CACTC was the school that won the highest number of medals across all competitions for a grand total of 58,” he said. “It illustrates that Cranston’s Career and Tech programs are unquestionably a shining star in the constellation of Rhode Island’s public schools.”
