Character’s Café & Theatre 82 Brunch, served with a side of live music, every Sunday

It may be a day of rest for much of the world, but for the busy crew at Characters Café, Sunday is a day of joyful work. Sunday is BRUNCH day at this popular café, located in the close-knit community of Cranston’s Rolfe Square. Head chef Steve Hobin and sous-chef Jonathan have whipped up a brunch menu that rivals any other in the area. This dynamic duo of talented chefs is creative, daring and always thinking “outside the box” with flavor combinations. A spectacular buffet (complete with a design-your-own omelet station and Crepe Suzette with Grand Marnier sauce) is complimented by an ever-changing array of specials and is served every Sunday from 10:00am -1:00pm.

The food here is consistent, comforting and just plain delicious. On any given Sunday, hungry diners at this cozy café will find such crowd-pleasing, “a la carte” options as these:

• Strawberry Cheesecake-stuffed French Toast: Cheesecake crème-filled French Toast with a strawberry compote

• Pollo Benni: Seasoned pulled chicken on an English Muffin with poached eggs, pickled onions and house-made salsa hollandaise sauce

• Portuguese Scramble: ground chourico, roasted red peppers, kale and goat cheese

• Old Joe: Egg sandwich with cheese on an English Muffin

• 1, 2 or 3 eggs served with home fries and toast

While Character Café’s brunch menu is a showstopper, its daily offerings are just as enticing, full of classic comfort foods and unforgettable dishes that all evoke memories of home. The café serves a full breakfast and lunch menu, including such favorites as pancakes, omelets and French toast, as well as steaming bowls of oatmeal, fresh fruit and baked goods and some of the tastiest home fries and homemade hash around.

The lunch menu at Character’s Café is equally as delectable, with juicy grilled burgers, seasonal soups and salads and such all-time favorite sandwiches as grilled cheese, BLTs and Reubens.

Adjoining the café is Theatre 82. This intimate theater is a multi-use performance, meeting and instructional space; the theater is an extension of Artist’s Exchange, the nearby community arts collaborative. The theater features actors of all ages and abilities from across the region and hosts multiple theatrical performances. Check the theater’s website to learn more about its upcoming “One Act Plays”!

Characters Café is the only 100% non-profit restaurant in Rhode Island. It is proudly owned and operated by Gateways to Change, Inc., an organization that seeks to enhance the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
