The CLCF 10U football team topped the New Britain Jr. Canes 26-6 in the New England Regional Championship to punch its ticket to nationals in Florida.
“It’s absolutely amazing. These kids are in for the ride of a lifetime. Not many organizations from the Northeast travel down to Florida, this is the first team for CLCF in many, many years,” said CLCF President Eugene Matera. “These kids are going to be sports stars down there. They have medical tents, trainers, massage therapists, ESPN does interviews with them. This is an amazing experience for them. This is great because this is the 10U team which is the foundation of our organization. For them to have this success is great.”
Although the CLCF 10s rolled to a perfect record this season, they have also overcome adversity throughout the year.
“This team has defied the odds. It’s star running back got hurt right before the playoffs, it’s a small team with just 16 players. They’ve really come together and have been tremendous and the coaching staff has done a great job,” said Matera.
The club will be hitting the road on Dec. 7th, and until then, is looking to raise funds for the trip.
CLCF has a GoFundMe account that can be found on Facebook. The team will also be canning at local locations including the upcoming Thanksgiving game between Cranston High School East and West. The team will also be hosting a pasta dinner fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 1st at Saint Mary’s Feast Society at 15 Phenix Ave in Cranston. The overall goal is set at $22,000.
Members of the CLCF 10s include: Cameron Bernier, John Oliver, James Dorival, Alijah Magdaleno, Devonte Scibilia, Thomas Huot, Jacob Jordan, Joseph Guilmette III, Giulio Broccoli, Byron Noriega, Daniel Mojica Jr, Edward Gomes, Kayvion Perreault, Jordan Dormu, Elias Gomez, Bryce Watson, Chase Field. Coaches included: Head coach Arthur Jordan Jr, assistants Patrick Grundy, Arthur Jordan, Eugene Matera, Daniel Mojica.
