The 40 students in Paul Petit and Susan Adams' sixth grade classrooms at Dutemple Elementary School dedicated their sixth grade service project this year to working with the Pennies for Patients Program. This program is part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society that raises money for children with cancer. "We collected over $2,000. Hard to believe our goal was $350. We are ecstatic over what we collected," said Petit. Ellee Viveiros explained that the students were able to have fun at the same time they were raising money for such a worthy cause. "All the sixth graders got to visit each classroom and collect the money. We would count it all to see what room had donated the most. At the end, Grade 5, Room 7 won the grand prize of a pizza party,” she said. Pictured here, the sixth graders and their teachers display the check made out to the Pennies for Patients Program.
