Mass. man faces federal charge in prostitution case

A Massachusetts man is facing federal charges in connection with a sex trafficking investigation.

Devon Brown, 24, of Everett, was arrested and arraigned last week on a Mann Act charge of interstate transportation with the intent to engage in prostitution, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha. He entered a plea of not guilty, and was released to home confinement with electronic monitoring.

Prosecutors say a joint investigation on the part of Cranston Police and Homeland Security personnel found Brown had in March of this year “paid for and posted Backpage ads offering a woman for commercial sexual activity” out of a Seekonk motel.

An undercover agent is said to have responded to the ad, and arranged for the woman to be brought to a Cranston residence to engage in sex for a fee. When Brown and the woman arrived, they were detained by authorities.

Police hosting Drug Take-Back Day

Cranston police are again partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency for the twice-yearly National Drug Take-Back Day initiative.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, citizens are invited to dispose of prescription medications at a collection bin in the lobby of police headquarters on Garfield Avenue.

According to police, the initiative “aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.”
