ClearPoint Builders, of Cranston, received the LEED Platinum Award from the National US Green Building Council on Sept. 5.

The award recognizes The Holt Residence, at 509 Wayland Ave. on the East Side of Providence, as the first full-gut rehab and the oldest LEED Platinum home in the state to meet LEED's building top award.

ClearPoint is owned by Richard Rodi, of Cranston. He and his son, Jake, worked on the home for three years with Felice Holt, the homeowner.

The award was presented at a ceremony with the U.S. Green Building Council and Rhode Island's Kenneth J. Filarski. Leah Bamberger, Director of Sustainability for the City of Providence, presented a city citation and Representative Aaron Regunberg also presented a citation.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is one of the most popular green building certification programs used worldwide. Developed by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), it includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighborhoods that aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.

LEED is a voluntary certification program for green building. Recognizing excellence in the building of high performance homes. LEED certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy.

Plans are underway for ClearPoint to also be recognized later in the month by the city of Cranston.
