SBSNE Family Day Rescheduled to this Saturday

On Aug. 25, there will be a Family Day Fundraiser to benefit SBSNE. Inc Nutrition Support Program at Oakland Beach in Warwick. Hosted by Nicole White of Cranston and the President of the Short Bowel Syndrome Foundation for Children of New England, Inc., the event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. The event was postponed due to rain. The Family Fun Day Fundraiser will include a car show, a D.J., kids’ activities, food, vendors, and raffles. They are still actively searching for volunteers and vendors for the event.

Short bowel syndrome is a group of problems related to poor absorption of nutrients. Short bowel syndrome typically occurs in people who have had at least half of their small intestine removed and sometimes all or part of their large intestine removed significant damage of the small intestine poor motility, or movement, inside the intestines. Short bowel syndrome may be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on how well the small intestine is working.

Many who are diagnosed with SBS, also have feeding tubes, depend on special formulas and drinks, and blends of real food to sustain because their bodies need the extra help to maintain their nutrition and ultimately, stay out of the hospital.

The fundraiser will consist of a Car Cruise hosted by Cruisin Bruce. There will also be family/kid friendly activities such as face painting, prizes, including a workshop put on by Endless Beautiful; creativity with art, food, and more.

CCAP Benefit Million Dollar Hole-in-One

Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) is calling all golfers from Sept. 3-13 to the 13th to the CCAP Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shoot-Out at Harbor Lights along beautiful Greenwich Bay in Warwick Neck. A $10 donation gets you three balls and your chance for a Million Dollars. The two golfers closest to the pin will go onto to the CCAP Chip for Charity Million Dollar Hole in One Contest and a chance for One Million Dollars.

CCAP is Rhode Island’s largest community action agency that provides an array of quality programs and services that are dictated to fighting the war on poverty. Join us for an evening reception and silent auction and the CCAP Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shoot-Out on Sept. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harbor Lights. This will be the largest fundraiser they host during the year to benefit programs and services throughout the community. Coffee with Constituents

State Rep. Robert Lancia (District 16) and his wife, Maryann, invite members of the community to attend end-of-the-month “Constituent Coffees” on Aug. 25. The gatherings are held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Panera Bread in Cranston on the last Saturday each month and are meant as a forum to discuss local issues over coffee. Cranston Senior Golf Tournament

The Cranston Senior Center will host their Annual Golf Tournament on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 at the Cranston Country Club, located at 69 Burlingame Rd. Everyone age 55 years or older are invited to participate. The $75 fee includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, continental breakfast, lunch and a banquet immediately following. MS Dream Center, Accessible Rhode Island Wine & Dine Extravaganza

The MS Dream Center of Rhode Island and Accessible Rhode Island will host a Wine & Dine Extravaganza on Sept. 8 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organization, which is dedicated to benefiting individuals with multiple sclerosis and other disabilities.

The event, sponsored by Bob Gasbarro’s Oaklawn Liquors, features a wine and beer tasting, along with a variety of food from some of Rhode Island’s best-known restaurants. The event will also include entertainment, raffles, live auction, a 50/50, and a mystery wine and dine pairing. Tickets are $60 each or 10 for $500. To purchase tickets, visit www.msdreamcenter.org.

The MS Dream Center was founded in April 2010 with a mission of engaging all members of the MS community in purposeful activity, while promoting a spirit of camaraderie. Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Rescheduled concert in Garden City

On Aug. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the Garden City Concert Series will close out their free summer concert series with the rescheduled concert by Neal & The Vipers who feature Premier Blues, Roots, Rockabilly and Surf Band. This year’s sponsors are BankNewport and Tasca Chevrolet. Everyone is asked to bring a food donation of peanut butter or tuna fish to each concert for the CCAP food pantry.

Craft Fair to benefit Veterans

Kelley-Gazzerro VFW Post 2812 Auxiliary will be hosting a Craft Fair on Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1418 Plainfield St. Proceeds go towards support of our veterans. If you would like to reserve a table for $20, please contact Lillian Macera at 829-6080.

At the Senior Center

The Michael A. Traficante Enrichment Center, located at 1070 Cranston St., will offer the following programs and activities:

Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program - “Take Control, One Step at a Time, Keep Moving” will hold Orientation at the Center on Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. and walking will be held at the Cranston High School West Walking Track on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 to 10 a.m., beginning Sept. 17 ending Oct. 26. Senior Signature Diabetes Series is planned for both pre-diabetics and diabetics at the Cranston Senior Center beginning Sept. 25 to Oct. 30 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It is a six-week free series provided by The American Diabetes Association. Approximately 25 percent of Americans over the age of 60 have diabetes.  To address the need the American Diabetes Association has developed an older adult outreach program Senior Signature Series.  This series will provide tips and resources needed to help seniors address the challenge of preventing diabetes and keeping diabetes treatment from impairing their lifestyle or slowing them down. Heathers the Musical – High School Edition coming to Artists’ Exchange

Artists' Exchange's Youth Theatre Program will present Heathers the Musical – High School Edition based on the book, music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy and based on the film written by Daniel Waters. The performances will be Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., Aug 25 at 2 p.m. and Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.

Directed By Rachel Terceira and Kyarah Rosa with Musical Direction by William Petterson, Heathers The Musical (High School Edition) is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers, but before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously handsome new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized but J.D has another plan for their bullet.

All performances will be held at the Artists’ Exchange/Theater 82, located at 82 Rolfe Sq. in Cranston. Tickets are $15 per general admission.
