The Annual City Hall Christmas Tree Lighting took place on Dec. 5 indoors; as it was raining that evening. The rain, however, did not dampen the holiday spirit as the outdoor Christmas Tree was lit by Mayor Allan Fung, and Santa Claus arrived by a Cranston Fire Department truck.
A trumpet solo by Domenic Kaffenberger opened the evening program.
Also in attendance was Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, who was invited by Mayor Fung and his wife, Barbara Ann Fenton.
Santa arrived at City Hall just as the BASICS Holiday GLEE children were singing “Santa Clause Is Coming to Town.”
Also performing was the Cranston High School East Chorus singing Christmas carols under the director of Emily Johnson, and they were followed by the Cranston High School West Chorus under the direction of Phil Lachance.
Hundreds of people of all ages enjoyed the festive evening and treats of hot cocoa and cookies, which were prepared by the Senior Center and served by senior volunteers, Marilyn McCabe and Rita Penzo.
